‘Authenticity is not something we have or don’t have. It’s a practice – a conscious choice of how we want to live.’ Thank you Brene Brown, world-wide lead researcher on the Power of Vulnerability and how to live a wholehearted life.
Being true to you in a world that want’s you to simply fit in with everyone else is a courageous act. It is a daily conscious choice to align who you are with what you love (your values and strengths).
My values are attributes such as accountability, courage, respect, openness, and optimism (to mention a few). When I live out of alignment to these values – I feel terrible!
My emotions are a great indicator of when I am not true to myself, and I feel this as symptoms on my mental, physical, emotional and/or spiritual wellbeing.
Choosing to live in order to fit in, seek approval, or for status purpose, brings with it a safety warning. Continue to do this, and you will compromise your self, and/or your relationships.
As we let go of what people think and live with our whole heart even when there are no guarantees, this is authenticity coupled with courage.
So what does being ‘true to you’ mean to you...?
